The Humanities and Social Sciences Building at UC San Diego is a winner of the 2025 Preservation Design Award for Craftsmanship/Preservation Technology. The California Preservation Foundation’s awards showcase the best in historic preservation.
The deteriorated façade of precast concrete was replaced with a new curtain wall of precast panels to match the historic Brutalist design. The team addressed the root cause of failures in the original concrete chemistry with a concrete mix that would withstand the corrosive marine environment and match the aesthetics of the original.
Design creativity, construction expertise, and preservation technology achieved lasting results for the sustainable preservation of this historic building.
