Wet and Dry Research Laboratories for a wide range of Disciplines including Chemistry, Physics, Material Sciences and Energy Research; Faculty Offices, Conference and Meeting Space, Classrooms and Lecture Halls, Departmental Administrative Offices, and Interaction space.
The School of Physical Science and Technology, through its breadth, becomes a campus within the campus occupying the north-west parcel of the new university. The School’s program of research, education and administration has been distributed into seven structures that separate the research from general education populations and places administration in a prominent location adjacent to the Central Academic Quad. Adhering to the Campus’ Design Guidelines, an Icon Entry anchors the School’s northeast corner fronting a primary campus intersection. The Icon Entry not only welcomes students to the attached classroom building, but also marks the entry to a set of linked courtyards and the administrative building immediately to the south. On the ground level, arcades and canopies allow for sheltered access from building to building. While the need for Departmental identity is served through the development of separate structures, the requirement for interdisciplinary connectivity is fostered in the connected, adjoining Atrium and hub for interactivity anchoring the western research buildings. The separately zoned Atrium provides pre-function space for primary lecture halls found immediately adjacent and a set of meeting spaces that will serve the wider research community.
