Christopher Chan, AIA, has over 20 years of hands-on experience leading the design and development of landmark projects throughout Asia and the United States. These project types range from mixed-use, office, retail, hotel, and higher education. He is a long-standing advocate in sustainable and high-performance building design achieved through a collaborative process of iterative design and strong technical integration.

Prior to joining Moore Ruble Yudell, Mr. Chan was Design Director and Regional Commercial Office Building Practice Area Leader at Gensler in Los Angeles and Shanghai. Before that, he was Associate Principal at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates in New York. His most recent projects in China while with Gensler include the 632m-tall Shanghai Tower, the 350m-tall Nanjing World Trade Center, and the Springs Office Park and NIKE Headquarters campus.

Currently, Mr. Chan is one of the designers for the new, 813,000 sqm Shanghai Advanced Research Institute campus for MRY. This ambitious, first-of-its-kind research campus in China comprises of over 40 buildings within the MRY-designed master plan. The design is centered on inter-disciplinary collaboration, sustainable development, and unprecedented integration with private industry stake holders. This project is entering construction and scheduled for completion in 2015.

Christopher has lectured and spoken in a number of industry conferences including the US-China Clean Energy Forum, Green Build China, HOPSCA. He has also been a guest lecturer for several international universities including Duke University, the University of Southern California, Hong Kong University, and Tongji University in Shanghai in addition to having been an invited guest juror for design reviews.

In 2010, Christopher co-founded the American Institute of Architect’s Shanghai Chapter. Always active in his community, he continues to serve on its Board of Directors.

He is a Registered Architect in the State of California, and a LEED Accredited Professional since 2005 and in 2010 added the US Green Building Council’s sustainable Building Design + Construction credential.
