Union Station Master Plan Envisioning Competition

Union Station Master Plan Envisioning Competition
Los Angeles
California

Moore Ruble Yudell’s Team was one of six finalists participating in this prominent Competition. Our Team sees the project as a critical opportunity to restore the fabric of a historic district in Los Angeles, and to once again establish Union Station—opened in 1939 and known as “Last of the Great Railway Stations” built in the United States—as a defining landmark at the center of the city.

Celebrating a Landmark
At the original crossroads of the city, Union Station will be restored to its rightful status as an iconic gateway to Los Angeles and a National Landmark. Powered by 21st Century transit, the rebirth of Union Station and its district breathes vibrant new life into downtown Los Angeles, reconnecting new and historic neighborhoods that have long been cut off by freeways and overpasses.

Elevating the Riders’ Experience
The new station will welcome visitors to a paradise of Southern California landscape, providing Metro’s expanded ridership with an unparalleled experience of efficiency, clarity of movement, and a unique sense of place drawn from the climate and culture of Los Angeles.

Re-Connecting the Public Realm
Streetscape, pedestrian and vehicular movement, and urban landscape on and around the site will be completely transformed, enhancing the development of Metro’s property with real connectivity to its surrounding neighborhoods.

Modeling Sustainable Urbanism
As a model of environmentally responsive development, the Union Station and District will incorporate concepts of sustainable urbanism as well as advanced principles of cost-effective, energy efficient building systems and sustainable landscape.
